ABACOA…READY TO ‘BATTLE’

June 2008

Success, success, success! That’s what the ‘Battle of the Abacoa Neighborhoods’ two day event was all about. The weekend started at Roger Dean Stadium with an energetic Pep Rally for all the communities with award winning entertainer, ‘Marvellous Mark’. After the opening act everyone enjoyed the spring training baseball game between the Palm Beach Cardinals and the St. Lucie Mets. This was an evening you did not want to miss…surrounded by the residents of Abacoa having wholesome fun, the of scent hot dogs and Cracker Jacks at the ball park, the children enjoying themselves with Snuggles the Clown, with face painting and balloon crafts, and watching everyone cheer for their neighborhood athletes. This magnificent evening ended with a colorful FIREWORK display.

 Let’s Get Ready to RUMBLE!!!!

The morning of Sunday, June 1st began bright and early with the 5K Run. The runners enjoyed a warm up session provided by Xpress Fitness at the Town Center Amphitheatre. Marcy Isdaner, a Valencia homeowner, volunteered and was the race coordinator. The 5K race course was designed to take the runners thorough several of the beautiful communities within Abacoa, beginning at the Amphitheatre and ending at Roger Dean’s HOME PLATE. The run was professionally coordinated and executed with a computerized chip system that provided the runners with their times. The run was divided into two categories and the results were as follows:

1st Place: Bill Picciano, Valencia                      1st Place: Nikki Isander, Valencia

2nd Place: Ryan O’Neill, Martinique               2nd Place: Tracy Plauche, Tuscany

3rd Place: Michael Rahilly, The Island            3rd Place: Tammy Trivison, New Haven

The golf tournament was held at the beautiful Abacoa Golf Club. The 18 hole course was filled with 98 players, 25 teams. Each of the players brought their ‘battle’ clubs ready to dual it out. The teams were ready to RUMBLE with a shot gun start at 8:00 a.m. The competition was fierce that day and talent was overwhelming. The scores were extremely close and the tie breakers all resulted in the difficultly of handicap holes. The results of this extreme tournament were as follows:

1st Place: Ezra Sutton, Bryant Carter, Rich Krar & Jim Freeburn, Charleston Court

2nd Place: Dane Cooley, Colleen Cooley, Aaron Sloan, Mike Fisher, Valencia

3rd Place: Freddy Tapanes, Paul Runge, Jamie LaJoi, Tim Mitchell, Martinique

The tennis tournament consisted of 12 players, 6 teams in a ‘Rockin Robin’ style at the public tennis courts in Abacoa. Geoff Devine of Bristol Management, a former tennis pro, coordinated the format and monitored the tournament. The competition was tough. These Abacoa residents are quite skilled and a playoff determined the following winners:

1st Place: Jonathan Schwiering & Colin Mc Creath, New Haven

2nd Place: Tyler Caudell & Stephan Gumley, Martinique

3rd Place: Bill Picciano & John Baron, Valencia

Bristol Management was the presenting sponsor of the event in effort to assist in re-introducing the residents to the Abacoa Town Center and the Abacoa Community. During the Taste of Abacoa, everyone enjoyed the wonderful array of delectable foods, fashionable sidewalk sales, free rides on the bicycle rigshaws and the children had a blast with an 80’ inflatable obstacle course, 3 sided rock climbing wall, a bounce house, face painters, crafts at Go Van Gogh and so much more.  At 3:00 p.m. the anticipation was mounting as the participants from earlier sporting events were awaiting the results for the overall grand champions. Grand Champion Award was presented by Steve Inglis, Bristol Management Services, Inc. & Apollo Environmental Pest & Termite Services presented the winning community with a 1 year FREE pest control service for the community clubhouse. The 2008 GRAND CHAMPION winner was Valencia. Runners up in 2nd Place: Martinique and 3rd Place: Charleston Court.

We hope this will be the beginning of a traditional annual event with more Abacoa neighborhoods participating each year. A “special thanks” to Liz Diaz of Bristol Management, all the Bristol employees and volunteers for their hard work in making this event a success, Abacoa Town Center, Roger Dean Stadium, Abacoa Golf Club, Town of Jupiter, Abacoa communities that participated and to all the sponsors, without their support the two day event would not have happened. Congratulations again to all of our participants and champions!
